Tex Hall, the chairman of the Three Affiliated Tribes of North Dakota, testified against a bill to rename a bridge on the reservation.

A state lawmaker known for her support of Indian issues introduced a bill to change the Four Bears Memorial Bridge -- named for Mandan and Hidatsa chiefs -- to the Medal of Honor Bridge. The bridge is being built with $35 million the tribe obtained from Congress but a veteran who is behind the push says it's "racist" to leave the name the way it is.

"It's racist to name the bridge for Native American and exclude others," Richard Starke told The Grand Forks Herald. "They have nothing invested in the bridge."
