Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. is calling for a revamping of drunk driving laws affecting the reservation and for more cooperation among law enforcement agencies.

The tribe isn't required to report its drunk driving arrests to other jurisdictions, although some tribes in New Mexico do. Shirley said there needs to be "teeth" in DWI-related laws, The Farmington Daily Times reported.

The Mothers Against Drunk Drivers is bringing the first chapter to the reservation, to be located at Shiprock. Shirley signed an agreement with MADD President Wendy Hamilton.
