Lumbee Tribe seeks support for federal status

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2003 The stars appear to be lining up in Congress for federal recognition of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina but the tribe's neighbors might need convincing. The tribe is hoping the promise of jobs, federal funding and maybe even gaming will lure in the community. The tribe is drawing up an economic development plan for a 100-acre reservation.
