The Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans is seeking to resume its claim to 23,000 acres of land in New York.

The tribe, currently based in Wisconsin, had put the claim on hold while pursuing negotiations with the state of New York. According to a tribal spokesperson, the talks have not been productive.

The tribe faces a competing claim to the land by the Oneida Nation of New York.
