The Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma is donating $15,000 to a New York county in hopes of being a good neighbor.

The money was transferred to the county but a local official isn't saying whether it has been accepted. "I'm concerned that we would be acknowledging the land as a sovereign nation and that they don't have to pay taxes if we take the money," Cayuga County Legislature Chairman Raymond E. Lockwood told The Syracuse Post-Standard.

The tribe purchased 229 acres of land in the county in a bid to reclaim ancestral territory. The tribe hopes to open a gaming facility on the land but federal and local officials dispute whether it would be legal.
