Bush budget cuts funds for water project

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2003 President Bush's fiscal year 2004 budget limits funds for tribal-rural water project in South Dakota. The budget requests $6.8 million for the Mni Wiconi project, far less than the $30.8 million pending for this year. When completed, about 50,000 people on the Lower Brule, Rosebud and Pine Ridge reservations and surrounding areas will have clean water. The Oglala Sioux Tribe is the managing sponsor. Get the Story:
