New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson (D) has appointed more than 30 tribal members to top positions in his administration.

The list as reported by The Albuquerque Journal, includes one Cabinet secretary, two directors of departments that would be elevated to Cabinet level under Richardson, a deputy department director, several division directors and a handful of lawyers. In total, 12 are in high-level jobs and 19 sit on state boards and commissions.

The Cabinet nominee is Conroy Chino, of Acoma Pueblo, for Secretary of Labor. A Senate panel has advanced his nomination. Chino is known for his television reporting.

Richardson is a former Congressman whose district included several tribes. He served as Secretary of Energy during the final years of the Clinton administration.
