Acting Assistant Secretary Aurene Martin won't recognize the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma's recent land purchase in New York.

Martin sent a letter to a New York congressman saying that the Bureau of Indian Affairs doesn't consider the 229 acres to be under the jurisdiction of the tribe, which hopes to build a Class II bingo hall on the property.

The tribe was removed to Oklahoma but its ancestral home is in New York. It is part of a land claim against the state.
