The Bureau of Indian Affairs has been given 30 days to move out of a tribally-owned building on the Winnebago Reservation in Nebraska, Winnebago chairman John Blackhawk announced on Wednesday.

Blackhawk said the BIA hasn't paid its rent in five years and owes nearly $200,000. "We have given BIA officials numerous opportunities to clear up their delinquency but at some point enough is enough," he said in a statement.

The tribal council on Tuesday passed a resolution to evict the BIA. The tribe said phone and electrical service has been cut off and locks in the building were changes. BIA officials are being given access for one more month.

"The BIA already has a long track record of financial irresponsibility," said Blackhawk. "Clearly their fiscal affairs are a mess from top to bottom."

The Winnebago Tribe's economic development corporation, Ho-Chunk Inc., owns Indianz.Com and AllNative.Com.
