New funding from Congress will keep the diabetes program at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony in Nevada alive.

The tribe's program began six years ago and has helped more than 1,800 combat a growing epidemic. Native Americans suffer from diabetes at extremely high rates.

Congress last month authorized $750 million over five years for the Special Diabetes Program for diabetes prevention, treatment care and research for American Indians and Alaska Natives.
