The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday approved two of President Bush's appointees to the federal appellate courts.

Michael McConnell, a University of Utah law professor, is nominated for the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. The court hears cases affecting tribes in Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah and Wyoming.

Dennis Shedd, currently a federal judge, is nominated to the 4th Circuit. He was approved on a voice vote but the Senate panel's Democrats went on record as opposing him.
