Tribes oppose cuts to salmon programs

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2002 An emergency meeting was held on Thursday to discuss a $1.2 billion budget shortfall at the Bonneville Power Administration that tribes in the Pacific Northwest fear will lead to cuts in key salmon preservation programs. BPA has asked to reduce its 2003 fish and wildlife budget from about $180 million to the 2001 level of $139 million, according to the Associated Press. Tribal and Indian leaders said they will fight the cuts. Get the Story:
