The Navajo Nation's sovereignty doesn't outweigh public safety, The Farmington Daily-Times says in an editorial today.

Citing high rates of drunk driving in New Mexico and in the Four Corners region, the paper says the tribe need to share its driver records with the states. "By sharing information, the Navajo Nation would be making everyone safer, without any risk to their sovereignty," the paper writes.

The tribe isn't required to share information with the state. Recent cases involving drunk drivers showed that some had tribal infractions.
