Norton accuses Lamberth of personal attack

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2002

Secretary of Interior Gale Norton's personal lawyer, whom taxpayers are partially funding, accused a federal judge of personalizing his decision to hold her and Indian affairs aide Neal McCaleb in contempt.

Herbert Fenster was hired by Norton last year to help defend her against the contempt charges. U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth was not swayed and called Norton an "unfit" trustee.

Fenster, who is based in Colorado, is being reimbursed, for up to $125 an hour, by taxpayers.
