TUESDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2002

A federal appeals court on Monday said a power line to a sacred mountain in Arizona cannot be stopped.

The ruling affirmed a federal judge's decision that said the power line to Mt. Graham was exempt from environmental and religious protection laws.

Environmentalists and Indian activists have been trying to halt the project because the mountain is considered sacred to Apache, Hopi and other tribes.

The telescope project is sponsored by the University of Arizona and other international institutions.
