BIA lays out new driving policy

MONDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2002 The Bureau of Indian Affairs has instituted a new driving policy in response to a fatal accident involving a former employee. The policy won't take effect until January 2003, a year after Gary Larson crashed into a car carrying four Nebraskans, all of whom died. Prior to the January 25 accident, Larson was involved in other drunk driving incidents. The new policy prohibits drinking and driving. It also requires employees to report any alcohol-related infractions. Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb didn't circulate the changes among his staff until August, The Albuquerque Journal reports.
