Conn. casino law targeted by GOPs

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2002

Republican lawmakers in Connecticut are seeking a special session to repeal a law they say paved the way for tribal casinos.

The "Las Vegas Nights" was used by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation to authorize Class III gaming. But some say repealing it will have no effect on tribes who seek casinos in the future.

At the same time, some lawmakers want the Mashantucket Tribe and the Mohegan Tribe to share more of their slot machine revenues with the state in order to bail out the state from its budget deficit. The tribes contribute about $400 million annually.
