In an effort to combat drunk driving, New Mexico's secretary of state wants tribal governments to share their records voluntarily, KRQE reported on Tuesday.

As sovereigns, tribes do not have to report DUI convictions of citations to the state. The tribal court handles the cases.

But the state thinks the records can help keep dangerous drivers off the road. Some tribes already share information with the state.
