Senate passes homeland security bill

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2002 The Senate voted 90-9 on Tuesday to create the Department of Homeland Security. The vote follows House passage of the homeland security package. There are some minor differences in the two versions of the bills. It could take years to create the new department. An estimated 170,000 federal employees from dozens of existing agencies will be folded into the entity. Get the Story:
