There may be as many as 175 burial sites on a 29-acre plot of land in southern California that is the subject of dispute among members of the Juaneno Band of Mission Indians.

The tribe, which is not federally recognized, is split into three factions. One faction says it is willing to live with a Catholic school athletic complex provided that that the sites are protected. Another would like to see an interpretive center built while the third opposes any development.
