Responsibility said key to diabetes fight

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2002 Federal grants and research have not stopped the diabetes epidemic in Indian Country, Native health experts said. Dr. Yvette Roubideaux, an assistant professor at the University of Arizona and past president of the Association of American Indian Physician, said Native Americans need to change their ways to combat the disease, the Associated Press reported. A good diet and active lifestyle are needed, she pointed out. Patricia Cochran, executive director of the Alaska Native Science Commission, concurred and said Native foods and healing methods are key to the battle. Both spoke at the 130th annual meeting of the American Public Health Association in Philadelphia yesterday. Get the Story:
