BIA to 'mediate' Kickapoo dispute

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2002 The Bureau of Indian Affairs plans to mediate a leadership dispute within the Kickapoo Tribe of Texas, a spokesperson said. Last week, the majority of the tribe kicked out chairman Raul Garza and his associates, electing a new group of leaders. A federal judge on Tuesday said he wouldn't side with either faction and dissolved a restraining order he had placed on the tribal members. A BIA spokesperson told The San Antonio Express-News that both sides appear to have accepted the bureau's offer to mediate. Get the Story:
