Senator Frank Murkowski (R) defeated Lieutenant Governor Fran Ulmer for governor of Alaska on Tuesday.

According to unofficial results from the Alaska Division of Elections, Murkowski had 111,064 votes (55.9%) compared to Ulmer's 80,997 (40.76%). All but four precincts were reported.

Murkowski has to appoint his replacement for the U.S. Senate. He told The Anchorage Daily News he hasn't considered the decision.

Elsewhere in Alaska politics, Sen. Ted Stevens (R) and Rep. Don Young (R) were re-elected. They were largely unchallenged.
