FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2002 A woman who was fired by the South Dakota Democratic Party denied charges of fraud over thousands of Indian voters she registered in the state. Becky Red Earth-Villeda made a phone call to public television, according to The Sioux Falls Argus Leader. She said an ongoing investigation was a ploy to prevent Native Americans from getting to the polls. The state party fired Red Earth-Villeda after uncovering irregularities surfaced in counties located on or near reservations.
