Cherokee cop turns over beauty photos

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2002 A member of the Eastern Band of Cherokees averted contempt of court charges this week by turning over revealing photos of a North Carolina beauty queen. Tosh Welch handed over a computer diskette with electronic copies of photos of Rebekah Revels, a member of the Lumbee Tribe. He said the originals do not exist. Revels lost the state title and a chance to compete at the Miss America pageant over the flap. State pageant officials, however, have never seen the pictures. Welch is a tribal officer who lives on the Cherokee Reservation. Get the Story:
