TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2002

The U.S. Forest Service is planning to expand a ski area located on the sacred San Francisco Peaks in Arizona.

The peaks are considered sacred to the Navajo, Hopi, Zuni and other tribes. The agency said it is consulting with tribal leaders on the expansion but hasn't held any public meetings on Hopi or Navajo land.

The Snowbowl ski area is located within the Coconino National Forest.

The comment period closes November 14.
