Tribal members protest enrollment proposal

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2002 Members of the Flathead Nation of Montana are protesting a proposed change in enrollment requirements. The change would open the rolls to all lineal descendants. Currently, one-fourth blood quantum is required. The opponents believe increasing the rolls will jeopardize per capita payments and the tribe's status. They say the lineal descendants have supported termination and aren't pro-tribal sovereignty. The vote on the constitutional amendment is to be held sometime this year. Get the Story:
