THURSDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2002 A poll conducted by the University of Connecticut shows opposition to a third casino in the state. Of 762 state residents, 56 oppose a new facility compared to 39 who said they would support one. Sixty-five percent said two existing tribal casinos play an important economic role. A third casino could be opened by the historic Eastern Pequot Tribe, whose final federal recognition status is pending. A separate Quinnipiac University showed 68 percent opposition to the idea.
