The interim president of the University of Minnesota recommends continued involvement in a controversial telescope project build on a sacred mountain.

Apache, Hopi, Navajo and other tribes oppose the Mt. Graham observatory, where two telescopes have already been erected. They have asked various schools and lead sponsor University of Arizona not to erect telescopes on the land, which is considered sacred and is home to numerous species.

A third telescope is set to be built. The board of regents at U-Minn is voting on continued involvement next week.
