Navajo Nation presidential candidate Joe Shirley's running mate is a lobbyist for a multinational corporation that wanted to start a mine near a Wisconsin reservation.

Frank Dayish is government lobbyist for BHP Billiton, The Farmington Daily-Times reports. The company pulled out of the mining project last week.

Former presidential candidates questioned Dayish's industry ties due to the tribe's ongoing lawsuit against Peabody Coal. Shirley says there is nothing to worry about but that he supports a settlement with the company over low royalty payments.

Dayish is also a Native American Church leader.
