Senate to consider recognition rider

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2002 The Senate may vote today on a measure to suspend all federal recognition decisions pending reform of the system. Connecticut Sens. Chris Dodd (D) and Joe Lieberman (D) introduced the rider to the Department of Interior budget bill. It is opposed by Sen. Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii), chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, who said he would ensure against its passage. Get the Story:
