FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2002 The Notorious B.I.G. paid members of a Los Angeles street gang to shoot rival rap star Tupac Shakur, according to a Los Angeles Times investigation into the unsolved September 7, 1996, murder. Times reporter Chuck Philips said he interviewed gang members and law enforcement sources and reviewed court, police and other materials. Their identities were kept secret except for the alleged shooter -- Orlando Andersen, whom police questioned but never charged. Andersen was later killed in an unrelated incident. According to Philips, B.I.G. aka Chris Wallace agreed to pay $1 million to kill Shakur while both were in Las Vegas. Wallace's motivation was based on a lengthy feud between the two. Wallace was spurred on by members of the Crips gang who were upset that Andersen had been beaten at a Las Vegas hotel earlier that night. Shakur and members of the Bloods gang, rivals to the Crips, were caught on videotape beating Andersen. Wallace supplied the gun, according to the report. He paid at least $50,000 of the promised $1 million. Wallace denied a role in the shooting. He was killed six months later. Get the Story:
