FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2002 Anti-gambling sentiments in New England states is strong and may be linked to the region's Puritan roots. But budget woes are forcing states to revisit the issue. Maine, Rhode Island and Massachusetts are considering some form of gambling beyond the lottery. All three states have at least one federally-recognized tribe. Connecticut has two tribal casinos. Opposition to new casinos is great in the southeastern part of the state, where two Pequot tribes have been recognized. Get the Story:
