The state of Kansas is appealing a court decision to halt taxes against the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska.

A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction against the state. The state claims the tribe owes $1.25 million in gas distribution taxes.

Lance Morgan, chief executive officer of Ho-Chunk Inc., the tribe's economic development corporation, was in Kansas last week. He spoke at a tribal sovereignty conference.

Kansas has a separate gas tax case involving the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.

Ho-Chunk Inc owns Indianz.Com and AllNative.Com.
