MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2002 "I was retained by Kenneth M. Reels, chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, to investigate statements made by Jeff Benedict denying Chairman Reels' Pequot ancestry. I acted on behalf of Chairman Reels who, as he has done from the start, tried to do the fair and right thing by giving Mr. Benedict an opportunity to correct his error. Instead of taking that course, Mr. Benedict has once again attempted to shift the focus away from the pivotal point: Chairman Reels is descended from ancestors who were Mashantucket Pequots. . ."
