"In extreme fighting, young men go at each other with pretty much all they've got, except their teeth. John Burns, who manages boxing for the state Department of Consumer Protection, likened it to cockfighting, or the combat of ancient gladiators.

Sanctioned in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, extreme fighting is illegal in many states, including Connecticut. But the state doesn't have jurisdiction on sovereign Indian land. 'They've been trying to get in here for years,' said Burns, 'and now they've gotten in through the casinos.'"
