Editorial: Reparations owed Indians

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28, 2002

"I read in complete disbelief the statements made by Charles Barron and Louis Farrakhan in your editorial on Aug. 21 ("Separations"). I have only one thing to say: If they really expect the federal government to start handing out money to repay the African-Americans for the ills of slavery, then they will have to stand in the back of the line. There are many who have the right to stand in front of them, and if and when the African-Americans finally make it to the front of the line, I doubt there will be any money left to give them.

You see, long before slavery ever came to our country or even before the English ever settled our land, there were American Indians who had the right to every bit of the land we now live on. . ."
