WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 28, 2002 "Last month, the American Indian Scouting Association bestowed its highest award on [Lydia] Gonzales, the coveted Francis X. Guardipee Grey Wolf Award, during its annual gathering in Laramie, Wyo. The award is presented to American Indian or non-Indian adults for their work with American Indian youths. It is named after the first American Indian to become a National Park Service ranger and who founded a Boy Scout troop in 1916. He worked with young people until his death in 1970. "She's a gifted woman," said Marcos Crespo of Brooklyn, a youth adviser to the national American Indian organization. Crespo nominated Gonzales for the prestigious award. . ." Get the Story:
