The El Paso Times in an editorial today calls on state lawmakers to authorize gaming on Indian reservations.

The paper says it should be up to the people to allow gaming. "Trying to cram one's moral convictions down the throats of millions of Texas voters is not the way fair government treats an issue of vital importance, and livelihood, as the casino is to Texas' tribes," the editorial states.

The paper supports a bill to legalize gaming for the state's tribes. Two tribes have been forced to shut down their casinos because the state contends they are illegal.
