THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 2002 Outgoing National Indian Gaming Commission Chairman Montie Deer did a good job regulating the $12.7 billion Indian gaming industry, a casino game company with close ties to Oklahoma said. Multimedia Games Inc. (NASDAQ: MGAM) of Texas has numerous disputes with the NIGC and with Deer in particular. The company's stock slid after Deer moved to shut down a controversial casino game. Multimedia has a lawsuit in federal court in Oklahoma to legalize some of its games in the state. The NIGC wants the case dismissed, citing the company's lack of standing to challenge its decisions and the failure of the Chickasaw Nation to follow procedure for challenging a notice to shut down.
