Million in tax refunds due First Nations

The provincial Nova Scotia government is refunding a Mi'kmaq First Nation $16 million in gas taxes, with more to follow.

The province wrongly collected the taxes since 1948, the year a gas station opened on the Cape Breton Reserve. Aboriginals are exempt from taxation on reserve land.
