Goshute Tribe offers up its 'wasteland'

MONDAY, AUGUST 12, 2002 The Skull Valley Goshute Tribe of Utah has signed a lease with eight private utility companies to store up to 44,000 tons of nuclear waste on its reservation. Chairman Leon Bear calls it an appropriate use for his impoverished tribe's "beautiful wasteland," as told to USA Today. Many would disagree. The state has tried numerous times to derail the plans but to no success. Some tribal member also oppose the deal and are suing the Department of Interior to invalidate it. Get the Story:
