Lumbee woman loses N.C. beauty crown

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7, 2002 A member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina was stripped of her Miss North Carolina title. Katherine Seigenthaler writes in an opinion piece for The Chicago Tribune that an ex-boyfriend of Rebekah Revels insinuated he had topless photos of the 24-year-old teacher. Beauty officials in North Carolina never saw the alleged photos but confronted Revels, who said they were taken without her consent. Revels would have competed in the Miss America pageant in September. Get the Story:
