Lawmakers in Nebraska are being urged to vote for a constitutional amendment to allow up to nine tribally-operated casinos.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stormy Dean and supporting lawmakers said the amendment would prevent an expansion of non-Indian gaming. Voters are being asked in November to allow video slot machines in bars, restaurants, race tracks and keno parlors throughout the state.

The amendment would limit casinos to trust lands for four Nebraska tribes. It also authorizes up to five casinos on the borders of states that allow similar gaming.
