MONDAY, AUGUST 5, 2002 The first Alaska Native to become head of the Alaska State Troopers was shot dead early Saturday during what was described as a domestic-related dispute. Glenn Godfrey, 53, was shot once in the head and twice in the chest. He died immediately, according to police. Wife Patti Godfrey, 53, was also shot and was in critical but stable condition after 12 hours of surgery. She suffered injuries to her arms, leg and stomach. She is awake and communicating, The Anchorage Daily News reports. Karen Brand, 33, allegedly shot the Godfreys before killing herself. She was reported to be distraught over an affair with Glenn Godfrey that was ending. Brand was vice president of the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce and a former staff member of the state Legislature. Godfrey quit his police job in June to work for Koniag Inc., an Alaska Native regional corporation. "We've lost a warrior," said a friend. Get the Story:
