Senate panel questions Superfund status

THURSDAY, AUGUST 1, 2002 A Senate subcommittee held a hearing on the Superfund program on Wednesday. The hearing was called in response to a recent Environmental Protection Agency report which said funding for toxic waste cleanup was being suspended at 33 sites. But an EPA official said money has been allocated for 11 of those locations and that no current work has been stopped. One of the sites on the no-federal fund list is Tar Creek in northeastern Oklahoma. Huge piles of mine waste remain on lands owned by Quapaw tribal members. Get the Story:
