WEDNESDAY, JULY 31, 2002 Tribal gaming should be limited to tribal lands -- even if they didn't exist two years ago -- The San Francisco Chronicle says in an editorial today. The paper says a law that takes 10 acres of land into trust for a landless tribe violates the "spirit" of a gaming initiative approved by voters in March 2000. The provision was the work of Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.). "It may be up to the courts to undo Miller's little move to undermine the intent of California voters to limit casino gambling to tribal lands," the paper writes.
