A Republican lobbyist influenced Democrats in the Clinton administration to recognize the historic Eastern Pequot Tribe of Connecticut, The New London writes in an editorial.

The paper says Ronald Kaufmann was paid $500,000 over the years on behalf of the Eastern Pequot Tribe. "They got recognition," the editorial states. "Follow the money. Connect the dots."

The paper previously accused Clinton officials of bowing to Democrat interests. It now says the state's Congressional delegation will help a corrupt system.

Rep. Rob Simmons (R-Conn.) wants the General Accounting Office to investigate how the Pequot Tribe gained federal status.
