FRIDAY, JULY 19, 2002

A New Mexico county commissioner is accusing Sandia Pueblo of spreading misinformation about the tribe's land claim.

The tribe hired a public relations firm to make phone calls urging settlement of a long-running claim to the west face of Sandia Mountains. Bernalillo County Commissioner Tim Cummins said the "telemarketing ploy" unfairly blames the county for legislation that awaits action in Congress.
