Calif. tribes oppose power plant

WEDNESDAY, JULY 17, 2002 Several California tribes have filed a lawsuit to stop construction of a $120-million geothermal power plant near a sacred lake. The tribes and environmentalists fear Calpine Corp. will damage Medicine Lake and drain away its healing powers. The lake is used by the Pit River, Modoc, Shasta, Karuk and Wintun tribes.
